Riverport directs consultant to update proposed firm on plans

Riverport consultant Mike Flint was tasked with giving a proposed new, as yet unidentified firm expected to move into the Riverport area, anything they need to expedite their final decision.

County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft summed up the process by saying, “It’s like here is where we are at, where are you at?”

Flint made the request, in part because he said with the expected fast pace of future Riverport projects, such as the road construction and the spring boring work from the environmental engineers, he “didn’t want to do anything twice.” He said previously he had met with county Industrial Development Authority Chairman David Pace regarding the firm.

“I have given them all of the descriptions and documents,” he said, adding the matter could be an update as to where the Riverport currently stands on their projects.

Flint, in the motion, which was unanimously adopted by members with vice chairman Larry Thomas absent, will update the undisclosed firm as to where the Riverport is at and see if there is additional information they need to make their decision.

Craycroft, at earlier meetings, said the firm already has completed their due diligence on the parcels and is expected to sign a purchase agreement soon. Pace said in early March the closure could come within a few weeks, but no formal announcement has been forthcoming. Further details of the firm have yet to be released.

Flint asked if he was authorized to deal directly with the company, or if he should pass the information through Craycroft’s office. Riverport members said he needed to deal directly with the firm.

“We’re getting down to where things are in the final innings in the design,” Flint said. “I know we have money to get the GeoTech (environmental engineering work) done and then we will be close to some final construction drawings. We may not get all the way but we will have the designs done.”

“The point here is that he does have the power necessary to go forward and represent the Riverport,” board chairman Joe Wright said. “We want him to meet with whatever the company’s name is and see what their needs are at this time.”

In addition to Craycroft, Magistrates Tom Goddard, Steve Wardrip and Tony Staples attended the meeting.
