FRONT PAGE NEWS Residents can mark 9/11 in three area ceremonies Three area ceremonies, two in Meade County and one at Fort Knox, will enable residents to mark the Sept. 11, 2001, anniversary in a fitting format. The Patriot Day ceremonies are a remembrance of the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, paramedics and the citizens of New York, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks that day. This will be the seventh anniversary of those attacks.
Derby Tank cleanup complete Environmental cleanup of the old Derby Tank and Car Cleaning site near Ekron is complete. The cleanup was done under supervision of the Superfund Branch in the Energy and Environment Cabinet’s Division of Waste Management. Money for the $852,872 project came from the Hazardous Waste Management Fund, a trust created by the General Assembly to collect fees from hazardous waste generators.

Riverport Authority continues pressure on lease agreement Riverport Authority Chairman Joe Wright was directed to send a letter to Judge Executive Harry Craycroft urging a resolution to the Authority’s lease. “That is one of the items that we need to move forward on especially as the design gets more tighter,” consultant Mike Flint said, during the Authority’s Sept. 2 meeting.
One option expires, but two interested in industrial parcel By LARRY SEE JR. Brandenburg/Meade County Industrial Development Authority Chairman David Pace confirmed late last week the one unidentified firm looking at the industrial park parcel is expected to forfeit their 90-day purchase option. The option to purchase about 400 acres of land was extended during a special-called IDA board meeting May 7.
