Mighty wind batters Meade County

A major wind storm, which wasn’t predicted until minutes before it struck Meade County, knocked out power to thousands and cancelled schools Sept. 15.

“Meade County RECC is doing all they can do right now and given their best estimate it will be late today or early tomorrow (Tuesday) before everyone gets power back,” county Emergency Management Director Ron Dodson said.

Residents recall seven-year 9/11 anniversary
in ceremonies

Residents throughout Meade County and the United States paused as church bells rang, patriotic music played and campaigning stopped as the seven-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 was remembered.

Legal questions linger on IDA appointment

Carl Austin was reappointed to the Brandenburg/Meade County Industrial Development Authority Sept. 9 by Judge Executive Harry Craycroft.

Austin replaces Harry Lee Lusk on the body.

But questions linger as to whether Fiscal Court needed to vote approval on the nomination.

Craycroft cited Kentucky Revised Statute 154.50-326 which states if the Industrial Development Authority is established as a joint city/county endeavor, half the members shall be appointed by the mayor and half by the judge executive.
