We the People at Payneville Elementary

The law requires schools to teach students about the Constitution of the United States. At Payneville Elementary School this year, Deborah Strubler and Monica Lytle decided Constitution Day could – and should – be both educational and entertaining. They worked with the 5th- and 6th-grade social studies students on a theater-in-the-round program which included song, interpretive movement and a bit of drama for good measure. The students then presented the finished product to their younger peers on Sept. 17 – Constitution Day.

Stuart Pepper Middle School – the CATS’ meow

Results from the 2008 Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS) are in, and the results are positive for the Meade County School District. Of eight schools, five met the goal for the 2007-2008 biennium. The “goal” is the amount of progress made toward proficiency (an academic index of 100) by 2014 for all schools, for all students.

Water district eyes proposed rental policy

Meade County Water District General Manager Joe Bartley called it an “aggravating” situation.

“It” is trying to develop a policy to determine who lives in the various county rental units, so when the renters depart, the district isn’t left holding the water bill.

Burn ban in effect

By executive order of the Meade County judge executive:

There will be a burn ban in effect until there is enough rainfall to ease the fire danger. I also urge smokers to be careful about throwing lit cigarettes out of car windows or on dry grass. Ban will take effect Sept. 22, 2008, at 8 a.m.
