Army Vice Chief updated on Knox BRAC transformation, visits warrior center

The new Human Resources Center of Excellence is being built and personnel are being given area tours to entice them to relocate to the Bluegrass State.

Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Chiarelli was the latest in a string of visitors to witness firsthand the Fort Knox transformation.

Riverport Road funding details are released

Contractors for the Riverport Road project are sharpening their pencils.

Bidding documents were posted last month on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for the project, according to KYTC spokesperson Becky Judson.

The bid-letting for the project is expected Sept. 26, after which state officials will review the bid and recommend a contractor.

FEMA visits Meade County to conduct prelim assessment

Federal Emergency Management officials visited Meade County last week, the second time this year.

The first visit consisted of a mobile disaster center, which arrived for a few days at the Meade County Fairgrounds. The center assisted victims of the early February tornado.

County accepts FEMA funds for tornado

Meade County officials are getting to know representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency on a first-name basis.

But it might not be such a good thing.

During a special-called Sept. 24 meeting of the Meade County Fiscal Court, members accepted a payment of $83,728.52 for damages caused by the early February tornado.
