Preliminary plat approval given for chemical blending facility near Arch

Kost USA, a Mason, Ohio, chemical blending firm, won preliminary plat approval to relocate their present facility to a 30-acre parcel presently owned by Arch Chemical.

Jim Buchanan, representing a design-build firm based in Cincinnati, presented the proposal before the Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission during a special-called meeting Oct. 23.

Commission members unanimously endorsed the concept, clearing the way for the firm to present the final plat and finalize sale negotiations.

2003 resolution gridlocks efforts for hiring county investigator

A resolution adopted by the Meade County Fiscal Court in 2003 remains in effect, despite action by magistrates to rescind that during a special called Oct. 22 meeting.

Voting to rescind the resolution were Magistrates Tom Goddard and Steve Wardrip. County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft abstained and casting dissenting votes were Magistrates Herbie Chism, Tony Staples, Randall Hardesty and Mark Hubbard.

During their September meeting, magistrates sought the resolution for hiring investigator Martin Bosemer, if the matter wasn’t previously addressed.

Fiscal Court votes 5-2 to keep county tax levy the same, now

On a day when the Dow Jones dropped another 500 points and the nation’s economy is teetering dangerously, the Meade County Fiscal Court made a decision to assist county taxpayers.

On a 5-2 vote, a tax levy of .216 mills was established by magistrates. The .216 mills will bring $136,218.59 into the county’s coffers.

Casting dissenting votes were Magistrates Herbie Chism and Tony Staples. Magistrate Mark Hubbard said, in explaining his vote, he would recommend staying where they were, but said they needed to cut the county’s fat.
