Several hundred Meade Countians and other surrounding county spectators filled the Farm Bureau Building Nov. 1 as Xplosive Cage Combat presented “Brandenburg Cage Uprising” to Meade County for the second time.

With 11 fights on the card, those in attendance were eager to not only see the fights but the local fighters involved.

“I can’t wait to see some of these fights,” an attendee said. “I’m ready to see some good brawls.”

The night started off with Derek Yocom taking on Michael Drust. After a huge leg kick from Yocom, Drust was swarmed and TKO’d in the first round. In the next fight, Nathan Dailey and Tim Cook battled in a three-round thriller that featured many big hits and submission moves. Dailey won the fight on a split-decision with two judges voting for Dailey and only one for Cook. Lorenz Larkin and Stephen Carney matched up in the next fight, but Carney didn’t stand a chance. Then Larkin, behind thunderous leg kicks, disposed of the outmatched Carney early in the first round.

After the first intermission, the fans were treated to fantastic action in the next three fights. Benjamin Sergent and Jason Crowe was just the beginning of the big hits and great action. Sergent used huge body slams and great wrestling techniques to dispose of Crowe early in the second round.

Next up was Nathen Kelch and Jordan Dowell. Kelch dominated Dowell for almost two rounds, and then late in the second, Kelch was poked in the eye by Dowell’s toe and it looked as if Kelch might lose. But, since it only happened with 10 seconds left, Kelch was saved by the bell. Kelch, then regained his composure and eyesight and completed his match and won by TKO in the third round.

“That was the most fun I have had in a while,” Kelch said. “To come in here and win my fight and win Fighter of the Night all in my hometown, it’s just so cool. I’m looking forward to my next fight already.”

When Mike Clark and Matthew Corbaugh came to the ring in the next match, most fans weren’t expecting the action these two were capable of. Both fighters punched wildly and fought harder than they possibly could. Every round was back and forth until Clark TKO’d Corbaugh late in the third round. In the last fight before the second intermission, Jason Manire used a great submission hold to finish off Travis Crain in the middle of the second round.

Next up was Sean Lasley and Ronald Lynch. Lasley easily finished off Lynch with a TKO in the early moments of the first round.

Then came another great fight when Cody Bruce and Jamie Evans had a three-round thriller. For the first two rounds, Bruce had complete control of Evans using chest slams and great punching combos. But, Bruce’s endurance failed him in the third as Evans landed great shot after another. Bruce still held on and won against Evans on the judges’ unanimous decision.

“Man, I was so tired,” Bruce exclaimed. “I have only been training for a week and a half and my endurance was just not very good. My plan in the third was just to hang on because I knew I won the first two rounds.”

In the next fight, Josh Stith came to the ring only to find out that his opponent, Jason Powers of Leitchfield, left the building leaving Stith with no one to fight.

In the main event, Sara Seilt and Nina Ansaroff treated the fans in the only women’s match of the evening. Both fighters threw powerful blows to one another and fans were as loud as they have been all night. Ansaroff eventually finished off Seilt in the third round by TKO.

Overall, the night was deemed a success by everyone involved. Kelch was voted Fighter of the Night by the Meade County Messenger and the United States Naval Core.

“The people around here really enjoy the fighting and the overall atmosphere,” Travis Bunch said. “We can’t wait for another time to bring Meade County some more great fights.”
