Meade County Public Library purchases land for future growth

The Meade County Public Library has entered into an agreement to purchase five acres of land on Old Ekron Road. The parcel is situated across from the Meade County Extension Service and is within walking distance of both Meade County High School and Stuart Pepper Middle School as well as residential areas in Brandenburg.

Commissioners reject suggestion to appoint zoning hearing examiners

The Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission, during their Dec. 17 meeting, rejected the recommendation to appoint zoning hearing examiners, choosing, instead, to hear all cases as a full commission.

The bylaws allow the chairman to appoint one or more persons to conduct hearings independent of the commission and then report to the commission in open session. A vote on said issues would not be made directly on the heels of the hearing, as has been the commission’s practice until this point, except on rare occasions when they tabled an issue to gather more information. Planning and Zoning administrator Tony Coletta recommended this action in light of several emotionally charged issues the commission will likely be hearing in the near future.

Harrodsburg resident to start duties as new IDA coordinator Jan. 1

Del White of Harrodsburg in Mercer County was hired, effective Jan. 1, as the Meade County/Brandenburg Industrial Development Authority’s new coordinator.

The announcement was made by Authority Chairman David Pace Dec. 17 at the conclusion of a special-called meeting.

Mercer has a wealth of industrial development experience, including a stint as the executive director for the Harrodsburg-Mercer County Industrial Development Authority.
