Greenwave basketball: many questions, few answers

For the last two years, the Meade County boys’ basketball squad has been the District 11 champion in Region 3, so it’s a natural question: can they do it again? When you look at the squad’s statistics, that’s a very hard question to answer.

“If you take the remaining four players projected to start and add their minutes together, they won’t total the minutes played by Jonathon,” said Coach Jerry Garris.

Enthusiastic Lady Waves prepare to make noise in 3rd Region

After last year’s 16-15 campaign, and their third district title in as many years, the Meade County Lady Wave basketball team brings a young and energetic group of girls looking to stake their claim in a tough 3rd Region, not to mention 11th District. With the core of last year’s team graduating last spring, lots of questions are in the air for the young Lady Waves. But Coach Josh Hurt is optimistic about this year’s team chance to do something special.

“We hope to continue to be a factor in the 3rd Region.” Hurt said. “Our record isn’t as much of a concern as our progress throughout the season. Last year we won 16 games, but more importantly, we were able to win our third district title in a row. We really hope to continue that trend and to make a push towards the state tournament.” After losing five seniors from last year’s team, the Lady Waves of 2008-2009 will feature some fresh young faces who saw significant action as freshmen, sophomores and juniors in the 2007-2008 season.
