Will Otter Creek Park reopen?
Federal grant mandates trails remain open; state says

A $10,000 federal grant, used to develop trails at the now-closed Otter Creek Park, may mean the park may reopen.

Metro Parks spokesperson Jason Cissell said reopening the park is not an option at this time, but did say Metro Parks officials were in negotiations with the state to arrive at what he termed a “reasonable solution” to the matter.

New cost estimates coming in February for Riverport work

By mid-February, members of the Meade County Riverport Authority might have some revised cost estimates for constructing the long-awaited Riverport along the Ohio River.

Garver Engineering representative Chris Wilburn presented a project update to members during their Jan. 6 meeting.

“The geotechnical work is complete and the final reports are done,” he said. “These are going to be used in the final design when we start planning for the buildings, conveyor and river work.”

Proposed quarry zoning text amendment process restarts

A proposed amendment to the Meade County Zoning Regulations regarding the use of explosives in agricultural areas by non-farming activities is back in process again.

The proposal met with a deferment late last year, following comments from Louisville attorney Michael Tigue, representing the Meade County Quarry.

A second public hearing was held Jan. 13 preceding the Meade County Fiscal Court meeting. After that meeting, the matter returned to the Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission where it’s ultimate fate could be decided.
