Hail to the Chief Inauguration 2009

A first for The Meade County Messenger, reporter Larry See Jr. was on the mall to witness the inauguration of President Obama.

Jan. 20 was one for the history books when Barack Obama took the oath of office as the president of the United States.

And the Meade County Messenger was there.

Staff writer/photographer Larry See Jr. learned Jan. 8 the process he began Nov. 12 had resulted in his receiving press credentials for the Kentucky Inaugural Bluegrass Ball Jan. 19 and the Jan. 20 Inauguration, the theme of which is “Renewing America’s Promise.”

We’re excited about being represented in our nation’s capital for this historic event and applaud Larry See for taking the initiative in bringing coverage of the inauguration to the readers of the Meade County Messenger.

Due to printing deadlines, only shots of opening ceremonies were available for this edition. Full coverage of the inauguration will be in the Jan. 28 edition.

In years past, Meade County budgeted funds to reimburse these communities for their events, sort of a goodwill gesture.

Storm water headache greets Muldraugh council again

At 1 p.m. Jan. 12, Muldraugh Mayor Danny Joe Tate’s day was ruined.

A call from a representative of the Kentucky Division of Water informed him if the city didn’t start taking action on their storm water infiltration plan, they would be seeing noncompliance fines of $10,000 per day.

And for a city whose general fund only had $5,105.24 in it as of Dec. 31, that’s a chunk of change.
