America comes together to mark Inauguration in D.C.

Editor’s Note: Larry See Jr. was the first person in the history of the Meade County Messenger to receive press credentials to cover the Inauguration. Following are his personal observations on the trip.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – My boss, General Manager Roxann Curts, let me try for credentials the day they were announced. I don’t think she thought we stood a chance, being a weekly newspaper in Kentucky and one that had never shown an interest in the national political scene.

Messenger earns three state press awards for stories

LOUISVILLE – Last year’s Brandenburg tornado made the history books Jan. 23, but in a good way.

The tornado coverage provided by the Messenger was cited as the best in the state in the extended/ongoing news coverage area by members of the Kentucky Press Association at the conclusion of their two-day conference at the Galt House Hotel and Suites here. Writers Sandra Stone and Larry See Jr. were responsible for the work associated with the award.

CAD goes live at Meade County Dispatch

On Jan. 20, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) went live at Meade County Dispatch. The software program, developed by ID Networks, assists in tracking resources such as police, fire and EMS and provides more detailed reporting functions which they haven’t had to this point.
