‘South Pacific’ destined for success

An array of Meade County High School students have been hard at work for the past five months, preparing for upcoming performances of the school musical, “South Pacific.” These students come from many different artistic backgrounds, including band, chorus and drama. However, over the course of the next few weeks, they will come together, united under a common goal: to make the school’s first musical the best it can possibly be.

Mauckport Bridge closed for inspection following barge collision

At approximately 7 a.m. Feb. 22, a tow barge with approximately 15 barges attached struck the support pier of the Matthew E. Welsh Bridge, known locally as the Mauckport Bridge which connects KY 79 in Meade County to Hwy 135 in Harrison County, Ind.

Sign-up deadline pondered for west county water project

A sign-up deadline is being considered by officials from the Meade County Water District for the proposed west county water project.

Officials have had two meetings with the affected residents, the most recent being Feb. 13, water district general manager Joe Bartley said.

“The meeting was successful in that we now have 49 paid in full meters,” Bartley said during the board’s Feb. 18 meeting. “And the partial (payment) count is at 28, which is a step in the right direction.”
