Meade County quilters featured at Kentucky Crafted: The Market

Quilters from Meade County were invited to be a part of the Quilts for Beds Quilts for Barns exhibit at the recent Kentucky Crafted: The Market. Janet Scott pieced the beautiful cornflower pattern top which was used in the display to signify the art of quilting and early use as bed covers.

Police communications hot topic at Muldraugh council

Cutting overtime costs resulted in a discussion on the lack of communications between area police departments during the March 9 Muldraugh City Council meeting.

Newly-elected council member Patricia Reese presented two ways of saving funds for the city – eliminating the salaries and life insurance payments for Mayor Danny Joe Tate and council members and overtime for the Department of Public Works and Police Department.

Reese expressed appreciation to City Clerk/Treasurer Caroline Cline for assisting her in preparing the report.

Sheriff defends his actions

Meade County Sheriff William “Butch” Kerrick, himself a former Muldraugh Police chief, dismissed some comments made by current city Police Chief John Stinebruner during the March 9 council meeting.

Kerrick admitted his department didn’t alert Muldraugh to a drug buy which occurred at a local restaurant, in part because there was not expected to be any danger to civilians or police officers.

“All we had there was my vehicle and a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department vehicle and they were both undercover,” Kerrick said. “We also had two detectives there with unmarked cars. The only marked car we had in the area was a marked deputy’s vehicle off the LG&E road.”

Committee eyeing ‘big dreams’ through ambitious project

Big projects start with a small group and a big idea. Over the past six months, such a group has been meeting to discuss one such project. The committee formed is the Meade Activity Center (the MAC). The goal of the MAC is to build a facility dedicated to the health, wellness, aquatics, and community enhancement. The proposed facility would feature an indoor aquatic center, gymnasium, fitness and weight training rooms, as well as flex rooms to be used for anything from fitness classes to birthday parties.

Committee members include John Beavin, Meg King, Maggie Wilson, Meade County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft, Brandenburg City Mayor David Pace, Kim DeVries, Andy Mills, Bobby Jenkins, Nicole Whelan, J.P. Lavertu, Julie Powers, Jason Sutton, Bill Rosacker, Paula Spillman, Richard Bauer, and Meade County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Russell Powell.
