‘Hoppy’ Easter!

Predictions of severe storms and a tornado watch for Meade County didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of nearly 70 kids and adults April 5 at Doe Run Inn. Along with the Easter Bunny, the youngsters and others were set on finding 1,100 eggs strewn around the inn’s scenic setting.

Soldiers in Iraq treated by Irvington native

1st Lt. Daniel McQuary, the son of Tom and MaryBeth McQuary, Irvington, and a 2002 Meade County High School graduate, is doing something he never dreamed of.

“I had no medical experience in the states,” he said. McQuary is now a member of the Second Brigade Combat team of the First Combat Division, stationed in Baghdad.

He is the commander of the medical company for the unit, responsible for the brigade’s medical support. The unit consists of about 4,000 soldiers.

Tornado season: Watch and warning tips and hints

In the United States, tornado season has struck – literally.

Tornadoes are more prevalent from April through July, with May and June traditionally being the peak months. But, like thunderstorms, tornadoes can form any time of the year.

The area in which tornadoes are most prevalent is known as “tornado alley,” typically defined as the region from Texas north to Nebraska. But, of course, tornadoes can and do occur in every state in the country.

Meade County Emergency Management Director Ron Dodson said warning technology has increased significantly since the April 3, 1974, tornado struck Brandenburg.
