Success in the south, success at home Lady Waves earn first district win
Over spring break, the Lady Waves traveled south to sunny (?) Gulf Shores, Ala., to hone their skills for the softball season. Projected to play four games, they got in two and ½ due to the monsoon that hit the Gulf Shores area. In the first game against Robertsdale High School, March 28, the girls acquitted themselves quite well. Down 3-0 in, they came from behind to secure the win 6-5. Ahead 6-0 in the third inning against Gulf Shores High School, they fell victim to the monsoon-like weather and the game was rained out for no decision. They traveled next to Spanish Fort whom the defeated 3-0. “Kayla Padgett had a good day against Spanish Fort,” said Coach Mike Harreld, “She went 4 for 4 at bat.”

Local author enlightens DAR members
Ekron author Karl Hollenbach enlightened the Ambrose Meador Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution on “The Founding of America,” during their April 6 meeting.
Hollenbach’s books and articles have been published in England, Japan and the United States. He received his BA and MEd degree from the University of Louisville.
Hollenbach, who admitted the only “technology device” he and his wife owned was a cell phone, stated he enjoys living in Meade County, calling it “our home.”

Award-winning Spanish students
On March 16 and 17, Meade County High School Spanish students traveled to Elizabethtown Community and Technical College for the 4th District Foreign Language Festival and returned with several awards.
There were approximately 10 entries in the art, Spanish I category. Meade County students swept the category with first place Kelsey Adams; second place, Alexa Helton; and third place, Bethany Hooper.
