Ray’s to lose Chrysler brand; still will honor warranties through June 5

Ray’s Ford-Mercury-Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep Inc.’s name will get a little shorter next month.

Company owner Ray Cottrell Sr. confirmed last week that the Chrysler brand name is being removed from his business, but added the deal might not be completely done.

Stringtown Road car/bus accident sends one to hospital

A two-car/bus accident sent one Meade County Public Schools student to an area hospital May 16, according to district transportation supervisor Rodney Pickering.

The bus was at a stop along Stringtown Road, Pickering said, when the two vehicles following the bus allegedly ran into the back of the bus.

Industrial Development Authority to tighten up their financial controls

The Meade County/Brandenburg Industrial Development Authority directed Del White to reconcile the checkbook with the bank statements during their May 11 meeting, after learning such hadn’t been done.

The matter was raised by member Gerry Lynn, who questioned the fact there wasn’t an amount in the newly-adopted budget for an audit.

IDA Board Chairman David Pace said there wasn’t a need to have one, adding in the past the IDA was lucky if they wrote six checks a year.

County tosses HVAC bids and agrees to restart process

Thanks to some alert reading and comparison by Magistrate Herbie Chism, members of the Meade County Fiscal Court tossed the three heating, ventilation and air conditioning bids for the courthouse.

During their regular May 12 meeting, magistrates followed the recommendation of County Attorney Margaret Matney, and rejected all three bids, due to inconsistencies with the bidding specifications.

The original motion, made by Magistrate Thomas Goddard and supported by Magistrate Steve Wardrip, was to retain HMC for another year.
