Heroes of all types saluted
in area patriotic celebration
Military, policemen, firemen and EMS workers were the heroes of the evening during a special salute in their honor May 16.
As part of the annual “Hooray for Heroes” coordinated by the Fort Knox Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) and the Radcliff Chamber of Commerce, these men and women earned the community’s respect.
The guest speaker was Fort Knox Command Sgt. Maj. John Troxell who has served two tours of duty overseas.

‘Makeover Moms’ winners earn
some deserved recognition
Every child has a special lady in their lives – whether it be their mother, sister, aunt, or grandmother. A role model who has inspired them, mentored them and has been a positive influence in their young lives.
Donna Fackler, coordinator of the contest, and Megan Stith, both with the MCPL, presented the first- and third-place winners with their prizes in the gymnasium at David T. Wilson Elementary School. The second-place winner was recognized at Battletown Elementary School.

Court holds initial budget review
The proposed new Meade County budget is a shade under $1 million, as compared to the 2008-2009 version, magistrates learned during a May 19 work session.
And the spending plan includes a carryover of about $164,000, which increased from last year.
During a review of the preliminary document, magistrates learned County Treasurer Shirley Fackler played a guessing game as to how much income could be expected from property taxes.
