OPINION
To the Messenger:
This is to express appreciation to the county employees who maintain the Buttermilk Falls Historic Trail.
The ice storm and the heavy spring rains uprooted so many hillside trees, that the clean-up was an enormous job. Now, the summer crews are mowing the shoulders.
The east end of the trail passes through the farm where I was born, 87 years ago. My mother drove the horse and buggy and later the Model T Ford down the trail, three miles, to shop in downtown
Brandenburg. On the way home, she would let me play in the cold waters of Buttermilk Falls. My children, grandchildren, and now, three great-grandsons have enjoyed splashing in the falls that tumble out of the hillside. The cascading, foamy water looks like buttermilk.
For all of us who walk, jog or run, we appreciate those who are keeping Buttermilk Falls Historic Trail a special place.
