New location and rain doesn’t hamper Threshing Days

A new location brought unfavorable weather, but that didn’t stop participants, spectators and others from enjoying the 17th annual Lincoln Trail Antique Power of the Past Threshing Days and Antique Power Show.

With pitchforks held high and the chaff from the straw flying around, it didn’t seem to stop these members of the Lincoln Trail Antique Power of the Past Club Sunday afternoon.
Participating in the demonstrations throughout the weekend were Bob Bowersmith, of Radcliff, who owned the baler and Stanley Pollock.

Club President Edd Pike said this was the first time rain has fallen on the show in 15 years, so he thought that was a pretty successful run.

The show – held at the Meade County Fairgrounds due to the closure earlier of Otter Creek Park – expects to return to the same spot next year.

In addition to the threshing demonstrations, other events held throughout the weekend included a shingle-making mill, antique tractors and equipment, a large flea market, the annual tractor parade of power, kids’ games, contests and a nondenominational church service.

Show chairman Alan Thomas won the pedal tractor during the raffle, farm toy show chairperson Melody Dodson and Nathan Connor both won a lap robe during the raffle.

Club President Edd Pike, seen on tractor, operates the John Deere tractor for the threshing machine. Further information on the club can be found by visiting their Web site at www.ltapp.com.

“Our relationship with our community grows each year and our local businesses continue to step up to the bat year after year with their excellent support,” Pike noted. “We thank them and want them to know that without them this show would be very difficult – if not impossible – to stage.”

Next year’s Threshing Days are planned July 2, 3 and 4, 2010. The Meade County Farm Toy show and sale is scheduled for March 5 and 6 in the Farm Bureau Community Building at the fairgrounds.

New members are welcomed to join the club, which meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in the Meade County Extension Office. Dues are $12 per year.
