Lady Waves get first district win

After an abysmal performance on the previous Saturday, Head Coach Jennifer Smith was a little concerned about how her team would perform against district rival Hancock County Aug 21. The Lady Waves had already lost their first district game to Grayson County on Aug. 20, and needed this game if they were to defend their district championship this year. “We needed this win to gain confidence,” said Coach Smith. “The girls really stepped up tonight, but we still need Tiff.” Tiff is junior hitter Tiffany Filburn who is nursing a knee injury and expects to return to action in the next week or two. Meanwhile, the Lady Waves are learning that they can win without her.

Almost 400 runners in Payneville opener


The elementary cross-country season started Sept. 1, with their first meet at Payneville Elementary School. Almost 400 boys and girls from area schools participated. The top three finishers in grades 3-6 are listed below, with schools identified as follows: Battletown (B) Brandenburg Primary School (BP), Cloverport (C), David T. Wilson (D), Ekron (E), Flaherty (F), Payneville (P) and Muldraugh (M).
