Meade County mourns three lives

Ice-slickened roads and the first measurable snowfall of the season claimed the lives of two children and one adult in two separate accidents Dec. 7.

The first accident occurred on Hwy. 144, between Payneville and Rhodelia.

It was a road that was traveled countless times by the driver – transporting her children back and forth to school and herself to work.

The driver of the 2005 Chevy Equinox, Carissa Foushee, 30, reportedly lost control of her vehicle, crossed the center line on the slick and ice-covered roadway and struck an oncoming commercial truck driven by David Barr, 56, Payneville.

Foushee was taken to University Hospital in Louisville via helicopter with life-threatening injuries.
Two children in the vehicle, Michael F. (Rance), 6, and Addison Foushee, 2, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Meade County coroner.

The children were buckled in the back seat, according to reports, and were enroute to classes at Payneville Elementary School, where Rance is in the 1st-grade.

School staff called in grief counselors and were preparing a letter to be sent home to parents. In addition, members of the Payneville Fire Department had a special meeting that evening to deal with grief and
related issues.

Barr was treated at an area hospital and released with minor injuries.

Foushee is a former employee of the Meade County Messenger and is presently employed by Cook and Morris, CPAS, PLLC, in Brandenburg.

She and her husband, Mike, reside in Andyville. He is the son of Ron and Debbie (Pike) Foushee. She is the daughter of Francis and Cathy (Webb) Mattingly.

Payneville, located southwest of Brandenburg, is one of many small settlements locally. Community members were also grieving for the loss. They were joined in their grief by residents in Rhodelia, a neighboring town, who lost one of their members, Donna Sexton, in a separate incident.

The other accident occurred at KY 1239 at 11:30 a.m. in Midway.

Killed in the accident was 46-year-old Donna Sexton, Rhodelia. She was ejected from a 1997 Ford Contour driven by Tyler Sexton, 23, also of Rhodelia.

The Sexton car was struck by a pickup truck driven by Robert Hardin, 27, Irvington. Hardin’s truck went around a curve and he lost control on the wet road.

Kentucky State Police are handling both investigations.
