Meade County hosts Region 3 freshman basketball tourney

On Feb. 13, Meade County hosted the annual Region 3 freshman basketball tournament. Games were played at the Freshman Academy and the high school, with the championship game held in the high school. Eight teams, Grayson County, Breckinridge County, Meade County, Butler County, Owensboro Apollo, Owensboro High School, Ohio County and Muhlenberg County participated in the single elimination tournament.

Meade County grapplers send 13 to state

The Region 3 wrestling championships were held Feb. 13, at DeSales High School in Louisville. One of the preseason goals for this team was to win the regional championships, but at the end of the meet, the Greenwave fell just short of this goal. As a team, they came in second to Southern High School. “They (Southern) just got more first places than us,” said Head Coach Bob Davis.

Special Olympians please crowd

On Feb. 12, the spectators at the Meade County basketball game received a special treat at halftime. In preparation for their upcoming regional tournament Feb. 20 ( 11 a.m. at the Bluegrass Middle School and West Hardin Middle School), the two teams representing Meade County in the Special Olympics program performed an exhibition game.

Lady Waves win huge at Muhlenberg County

On Feb. 13, the Lady Waves made the long journey west to Muhlenberg County. The ride home seemed a lot shorter. “One of the most complete efforts we have had in the six years I have been here,” said Head Coach Josh Hurt, “To play as well as we did on the road against such a formidable opponent was special.”
