 Results not what were anticipated
It’s hard enough to be a freshman on a varsity team; imagine how a 7th-grader feels. That’s exactly how Chris Abernathy felt this past weekend when he represented Meade County High School at the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships. Abernathy attends Stuart Pepper Middle School, but because of his skills, wrestles on the varsity squad. Not only was he competing at state, he also was the first to wrestle in the first round of the first day’s competition. Four matches are ongoing at any one time and he was match number two, and therefore first on the floor for all to see.

Elementary and middle school wrestlers place well at state
This year’s Greenwaves varsity is not the only wrestling team from the county to compete at the state level. Four years ago, there wasn’t an elementary or middle school competitive wrestling program.
