Meade County SkillsUSA wins awards

March 5 was a big day for the Meade County Chapter of SkillsUSA. Members from the Meade County Area Technology Center SkillsUSA Chapter traveled to Elizabethtown Community and Technical College to test their abilities in technical skills and leadership events. A total of 32 students and three advisers made the trip. First-place winners received gold medals; second-place received silver medals; and third-place winners received bronze.


 

Heading to state

The Meade County Family, Career, and Consumer Leaders of America (FCCLA) had two members compete in regional competition Feb. 13, at Washington County High School. Jesse Adams and Amber Brown, above, walked away with first place and will now compete at the state level in Louisville at the end of March. The two students are currently enrolled in Lindsey Frank’s child services class and competed in the Focus on Children event. Their project title was “Dare to Share” and they went to Brandenburg Primary School to present their projects, which included teaching the students how to share.

 

 


 

 

WKU announces dean’s and president’s list

These are the names of the local Western Kentucky University students who completed degrees for the fall 2009 semester. Included are the students’ names and hometowns as listed by the students and the degree received.

Taking the Special Olympics plunge

Meade County High School student Seth Stone, right, joined his friend from Elizabethtown High School, Tyler Higginson, recently on the Old Navy team to raise funds for Special Olympics. To do so, the daring duo plunged into the icy waters of the Ohio River in Louisville Feb. 27.


BROWN NAMED TO DEAN’S LIST

Christopher Thomas Brown, Brandenburg, has been named to the dean’s list at Miami University of Oxford, Ohio. Students who achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average for the first semester 2009-2010 have been named to the list, which recognizes academic performance.


Local student pledges sorority

Emily Miller, a freshman at Centre College has pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. The Centre Greek community consists of eight national and international organizations dedicated to the ideals of brotherhood, sisterhood, leadership, scholastic achievement, community service, and social interaction. Miller is the daughter of Robert and Mary Margaret Miller, Brandenburg. She is a graduate of Meade County High School.
