“Now and Forever”
Meade County High School holds 2010 Prom

Joy Straney was named queen and Shay McCleavy was named king of Meade County High School’s 2010 “Now and Forever” prom. Joy is the of daughter Bill and Joyce Straney, Flaherty. She is the FFA secretary, is involved in archery, is on the soccer team, and hopes to attend Murray State University. Shay is the son of Sherry and Kelith McCleavy, Brandenburg. He is in drama, the National Honor Society, and the Tri-M (Musical) Society.

Fire Chief Larry
Naser earns salary hike, but board balks

A 3 percent salary increase for each of the next two years was given to Meade County Fire Protection District Fire Chief Larry Naser April 19.

But the salary increase still makes Naser one of the lowest paid department heads in the county, if one uses an example cited by board Chairman Martin Bosemer.

Brandenburg tied to illegal
immigrant marriage fraud ring

Beginning April 13, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents began a “large-scale sweep” across three states – including Kentucky, Tennessee, and Southern Indiana – rounding up at least 23 individuals accused in a grand jury indictment of participating in a marriage fraud ring.
