Country star Toby Keith rocks Fort Knox

Country superstar, Toby Keith – along with opening acts “Carter’s Chord” and Katharine McPhee – called the Godman Army Airfield home for a few hours May 29. The trio entertained a sell-out crowd – estimated at 11,000 people – during the third annual Army Entertainment Musical Tour. Past series entertainers have included ZZ Top and Brooks and Dunn. The concert is coordinated by the Fort Knox, Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department with support from several local businesses, including Lusk Mechanical and Fort Knox Federal Credit Union.


Memorial Day marked in area ceremonies

Memorial Day – a day set aside to honor our nation’s veterans both living and dead – was marked in solemn ceremonies throughout Meade County May 31.

Runaway teens found in Louisville

Rebecca Short, 15, and Julio Corcoran-Fields, 17, were taken into custody by Louisville Metro Police officers June 4, at a Target store on Bashford Avenue. The teenagers were transported to the Lincoln Trail Juvenile Detention Facility in Elizabethtown by the Meade County Sheriff’s Department.

WHAS Crusade tops $5,000,000;
area fire departments
haul in the funds

The WHAS Crusade for Children – broadcast over television and radio June 5-6 – took in $5,301,182 overall. In its 57 years, the Crusade has raised more than $138 million for children with special needs. Of all donations raised Crusade weekend, 100 percent are returned to the communities where children’s needs are met. Locally, the following fire departments contributed $92,900.01, meaning those dollars can be returned to the community to support deserving children.


Senior injured by potato gun may lose some vision – who’s responsible?

Mike Clancey, Vine Grove, is somewhat new to Meade County, but said it is his understanding that it’s a decades-old tradition for graduating seniors to gather by the river on Graduation Day.
