Fires torment area firefighters

Fort Duffield near West Point, a Civil War earthen fortification, was temporarily closed to the public earlier this week, due to wildfires which allegedly spilled over from the Fort Knox training area.

Hit-run driver arrested in Oct. 15 incident


William B. Wilkins, 34, a resident of Old Barr Farm Road, Battletown, has been arrested and lodged in the Meade County Detention Center in regard to a hit and run accident which occurred on Mills Road, Oct. 15.

Meade County achieves Level 2 state drought declaration

The Office of the State Climatologist and the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, in coordination with the Kentucky Drought Mitigation Team (KDMT), issued a Level 2 drought declaration for counties in seven drought management areas (DMAs) in central and western Kentucky. In addition, a Level 1 drought has been declared for an additional 16 counties in six DMAs. These new counties bring the total to 50 counties in seven DMAs under a Level 2 declaration and 35 counties in eight DMAs under a Level 1 declaration.

Public Service Announcement

Applications being taken for Angel Tree

The Meade County Clothes Closet will take applications for the Angel Tree, starting Oct. 1 through Oct. 31. Applications will be taken between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekdays and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
