Fort Knox investigates the death of a teenager at Camp Carlson

An 18-year-old from Tennessee who was attending his brother’s graduation from basic training at Fort Knox, died while at Camp Carlson Nov. 4-5.
Fort Knox spokesperson, Anne Torphy said further information could not be released due to the fact there was a criminal investigation ongoing, being conducted by the post’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Meade County coroner, Billy Adams performed the autopsy on the individual, but the results of that autopsy were not available at presstime.



Payneville teenager discovered dead in duplex near Rock Haven

Meade County authorities are conducting an investigation into the death of Joseph Gregory ‘Joey’ Smith, 18, Payneville.
Smith was discovered dead in a duplex apartment near the Rock Haven Baptist Church in the morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 6.
According to Meade County Coroner Billy Adams, an autopsy was conducted at the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville, and a death investigation is ongoing.


Recount sought in close 128-vote Jantzen/Greer district matchup

County Clerk Katrina Fitzgerald announced on Nov. 5 that there will be a recanvassing of votes in the race between Democrat Jeff Greer and Republican Dalton Jantzen for the State House of Representative’s 27th District seat.

The Meade County/Brandenburg Industrial Development Authority will be changing soon, as two members – including chairman David Pace – announced their resignations Nov. 2. Another resignation was approved, and another one is expected.
