German Foreign Minister Baerbock Joins Columbia University: A New Chapter

After her tenure as the President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock is set to continue her career in New York, transitioning to an academic role at Columbia University. Reports suggest that starting this fall, the former German Foreign Minister will serve as a Professor for Global Leadership and co-direct the Master of Public Administration in Global Leadership program.

The prestigious university program is designed for seasoned leaders with at least ten years of professional experience. Baerbock’s lectures will explore various facets of international political leadership, enriching the curriculum with her extensive experience in global diplomacy and governance.

Baerbock’s commitment to issues like women’s rights, climate action, and sustainable development during her presidency at the UN General Assembly was noteworthy. Her efforts also included advocating for reforms within the United Nations and addressing global challenges such as artificial intelligence and the succession of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

As Baerbock prepares to embark on this new educational venture, her position as UN President will be succeeded by Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh, starting September 9, 2025. Rahman is expected to continue addressing key international issues in line with the objectives previously set by Baerbock.

The collaboration between Baerbock and Columbia University is initially set for a three-year term, where she will undoubtedly bring a fresh perspective to the academic community, backed by her rich background in international relations and policy-making.
