A Fresh Initiative in Indie Cinema
Indie film enthusiasts are in for a treat as The Future of Film Is Female (FOFIF) partners with Neon to launch an innovative film series titled “Three Films, Five Cities.” This spring, cinephiles in Los Angeles, New York, Portland, Houston, and Cleveland will have the unique opportunity to catch three recent indie films at select theaters.

Spotlight on New Voices in Filmmaking
The program features three distinct films by emerging directors: “Reeling” by Yana Alliata, which boasts the executive production of Werner Herzog; “Puddysticks” by Megan Seely, produced by Academy Award winner Alex Coco; and “Dreams in Nightmares,” a sophomore effort from Shatara Michelle Ford. This selection not only showcases fresh talent but also emphasizes the voices of women and non-binary filmmakers.
Strategic Distribution and Support
The initiative kicked off on March 18 at the American Cinematheque as part of their Women Wednesday 2026 series, with subsequent screenings at prestigious venues such as The Roxy, Nitehawk Cinema, River Oaks Theater, Vidiots, Tomorrow Theater & Whitsell, and Cleveland Cinematheque. Caryn Coleman, founder of FOFIF, mentioned in a statement to IndieWire the importance of providing independent films with the theatrical exposure they deserve. This project follows on the heels of FOFIF’s successful distribution partnerships for “The Graduates” in 2024 and “Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake)” in 2025.
Coleman will manage the U.S. theatrical releases for both “Reeling” and “Puddysticks,” with an announcement pending for the U.S. rights to “Dreams in Nightmares.”
