Urgent Recall Issued by Anker for Select Powerbank Models

In a move prompted by safety concerns, Anker, a leading name in mobile power solutions, has announced a global recall of five of their powerbank models. This precautionary step comes after the discovery of a potential fire hazard linked to the lithium-ion battery cells from a specific supplier used in these products. In extreme cases, these powerbanks could ignite during use, posing a serious threat to users.

Identifying and Responding to the Recall

Owners of Anker powerbanks should immediately check if their device is part of this recall. The affected models include A1257 and A1647, both labeled as "Power Bank" with capacities of 10,000 mAh and 20,000 mAh respectively. Also included are the A1652 "MagGo Power Bank," and the "Zolo Power Banks" models A1681 and A1689, each with a capacity of 20,000 mAh but with varying outputs and cable integrations.

To determine if your powerbank is affected, locate the model number on the back of the device. Anker has set up a simple process for customers to follow: visit their website and fill out a form, which requires a photo clearly showing the model and serial numbers. The company’s website will then confirm whether the submitted device contains the problematic battery cells.

Safe Disposal and Compensation Options

If a powerbank is confirmed to be at risk, Anker advises owners to dispose of the device according to legal environmental guidelines, explicitly stating that these items should not be discarded in household waste. For information on proper disposal, users can consult resources such as the Environmental Protection Agency.

As compensation for the inconvenience, Anker is offering affected customers a choice between a voucher for their online store or a replacement powerbank. For those whose devices are not impacted, Anker reassures that they can continue to use their powerbanks without concern.

Despite the minimal likelihood of a malfunction, as acknowledged by Anker, the company has opted to initiate this recall out of an abundance of caution. This proactive approach underlines Anker’s commitment to customer safety and product reliability, aiming to prevent any potential incidents before they occur.
