Recent adjustments in the pricing strategies of prominent internet providers Vodafone and Telekom have sparked discussions among consumers, especially those considering new contracts. According to insights shared by the comparison website Verivox, both internet giants have introduced price hikes in their latest offerings, primarily affecting new customers.
### Understanding the Price Hikes
Verivox reports that as of late, both Vodafone and Telekom have increased the costs associated with their internet service packages. This change predominantly impacts individuals signing up for new services. Existing customers, however, will continue to enjoy their current rates unless they opt to change their plans. This distinction is crucial for subscribers considering different service options or upgrades.
### Detailed Look at the Changes by Providers
Vodafone made its new pricing structure effective from September 29, adjusting the conditions across all current cable tariffs for new customers. This revision is noted to involve significant price increases. Similarly, starting October 1, Telekom also raised its rates, adding an extra euro per month to all its currently marketed internet combo tariffs for new subscribers. If existing customers decide to switch to these new tariffs, they too will be subject to the increased rates, though this does not apply to services that have been ordered but not yet activated, such as those awaiting fiber optic installation.
### Special Note on Legacy Tariffs
In an interesting twist, Telekom has also upped the prices for some existing customers who are on older voice-only plans, which do not include internet service and have not been actively marketed for many years. Depending on the specific plan, these customers will now face a monthly increase ranging from 2.50 to three euros.

The rationale behind these augmented prices, as explained by Jörg Schamberg, a telecommunications expert at Verivox, is the increased costs faced by the providers. It’s been two years since the last price adjustment, and the economic landscape has influenced these recent decisions.
### Implications for Customers
Schamberg advises internet users to stay vigilant and regularly review their service plans, especially after their initial contract term ends. He hints that while current subscribers are safe from immediate increases, future price adjustments for existing plans are not off the table.
In conclusion, new customers looking to join Vodafone or Telekom will need to budget for higher costs, while existing subscribers have a grace period with their current rates unless they decide to switch plans. As always, staying informed and periodically checking for better deals could mitigate the impact of these price hikes.
