Apple’s Latest Tech Reveal: A Whirlwind of Innovations

In a swift 70-minute event, Apple unveiled its latest array of technology, including a new line of iPhones, updated AirPods, and an assortment of smartwatches. Despite the brevity of the presentation, the tech giant managed to showcase significant upgrades across various devices, albeit with a modest emphasis on AI capabilities compared to rivals like Google and Samsung.

Introducing the New AirPods Pro 3

Kicking off the event, Apple introduced the AirPods Pro 3, which now features the ability to accurately measure heart rate. Apple claims that the active noise cancellation on these earbuds is twice as effective as previous models. Enhanced by a new adaptive equalizer, the sound quality is optimized further, ensuring a richer audio experience. These earbuds are not only more compact but also come with silicone tips available in five different sizes, aimed at providing a secure fit and extended durability. Interestingly, these AirPods support real-time language translation via AI, though this feature is not available in the EU. Priced at approximately 250 euros, the AirPods Pro 3 are available for pre-order and will hit the stores on September 19.

The Evolution of Apple Watch Series

CEO Tim Cook then showcased the Apple Watch 11, which boasts a more robust design including a display glass that is ten times more scratch-resistant than its predecessors. This model, along with the SE 3 and Ultra 3 versions, comes equipped with a new 5G modem. The Watch 11 also introduces new health and fitness features, such as the ability to detect hypertension and a new sleep index, promising a battery life of up to 24 hours.

The more budget-friendly Apple Watch SE 3 now features an upgraded S10 chip, 5G capability, and an always-on display. This model also includes the new sleep index among other improved health features, with a battery life of up to 18 hours and a new fast charging option.

After a significant hiatus, the Apple Watch Ultra has been upgraded too. The Ultra 3 model features an enhanced, slightly larger display, extensive emergency functions via satellite, 5G support, and superior battery longevity compared to its predecessors. These watches are also available for pre-order with the Watch 11 starting around 450 euros, the SE 3 around 270 euros, and the Ultra 3 close to 900 euros.

A New Era of iPhones: The iPhone 17 Series

Next, the stage was set for the unveiling of the iPhone 17 series. The standard iPhone 17 model now sports a larger 6.3-inch display with slimmer bezels and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz. Powered by the new, more powerful A19 chip equipped with a new 5G modem, this model promises greater efficiency. Its display is brighter and features a more durable glass. Photographic capabilities are enhanced with dual rear cameras boasting 48-megapixel sensors and a front camera equipped with an 18-megapixel square sensor, which keeps the user centered in selfies thanks to its wider field of view.

The Sleek iPhone 17 Air

Instead of introducing a new Plus model, Apple revealed the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. Despite its slim 5.6 mm profile, the device promises durability with a titanium frame and tough ceramic glass on both front and back. The Air features a 6.5-inch display and carries the A19 Pro chip, making it more powerful than the standard iPhone 17. It supports eSIMs exclusively due to its slender design, which leaves no room for a physical SIM card. The iPhone 17 Air is priced starting at around 1150 euros.

Pro Models: A Blend of Elegance and Power

The event concluded with the introduction of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models, which are available with 6.3 and 6.9-inch displays, respectively. These models feature a new aluminum unibody with an integrated vapor chamber for optimal cooling, necessary to support the high performance of the A19 Pro chip. The rear camera island spans the width of the device and houses three 48-megapixel cameras, including a telephoto lens capable of an impressive eight times optical zoom and up to 40 times digital zoom. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at around 1300 euros, while the Pro Max is priced at about 1450 euros.

Despite the advancements, Apple’s focus on hardware was more noticeable than its AI innovations, which lag behind those of competitors. However, more AI features from Apple are anticipated next year, though not guaranteed.
