Brunson revealed, “We’ve been incredibly lucky to experience five seasons on network TV, retaining a strong fan base throughout. However, I acknowledge that the intense seven-month filming schedule each year restricts my cast and myself from exploring additional creative avenues.”
This sentiment was echoed by other members of the ensemble cast, like Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tyler James Williams, who are also keen on diversifying their acting portfolios. Brunson herself is contemplating roles that diverge from her current on-screen persona, stating, “I’m currently the ‘Janine’ and ‘teacher’ type, and I’m eager to shift away from that a bit.”
With new scripts currently in her hands, Brunson is on the lookout for the perfect project that resonates with her evolving artistic vision. She’s also passionate about using her platform to support other creative projects, leveraging the success of “Abbott Elementary.”
At a recent panel discussion hosted by IndieWire and Disney, Brunson discussed the challenges of maintaining quality over quantity in TV production. She emphasized her commitment to excellence, saying, “It’s a challenge not to settle for mediocrity, especially as we approach producing 22 episodes a season. We strive to surprise our audience with each episode, ensuring our show remains engaging and avoids becoming predictable.”
As “Abbott Elementary” prepares for a crossover appearance with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” on July 9, fans and critics alike are keen to see how this beloved series will continue to unfold, whether it’s heading towards a finale or setting the stage for more educational and comedic adventures.
