The Growing Influence of Gaming in Germany

In a recent survey conducted in Germany, it’s clear that gaming has woven itself deeply into the cultural fabric of the nation. Not only has the number of gamers remained consistent, but the attachment to gaming has significantly deepened over time.

The Unwavering Gamer Population

According to data gathered from mid-May to early June, about 52% of the 1209 respondents, aged 16 and older, reported that they play video or computer games occasionally. This statistic has remained stable over the years, yet it marks a notable increase from 42% back in 2015. Among these, 58% of gamers dedicate less than two hours daily to gaming, indicating that most participants are casual players. However, there’s a small yet dedicated faction, 7% to be precise, who indulge in gaming for more than five hours each day.

Gaming: A Necessity Rather Than a Pastime?

The emotional connection to gaming has also intensified. A striking 45% of German gamers admit they cannot imagine life without video and computer games, up from 39% just a year prior. This growing dependency highlights gaming’s evolving role from a simple hobby to a vital part of daily life for many. Bernhard Rohleder, the CEO of Bitkom, sheds light on this trend, noting that about one in five gamers have even dreamt about video games, illustrating the deep mental engagement and impact of gaming on the subconscious.

Preference for Connectivity

The survey also touched on the preferred modes of gaming, revealing that 28% of players favor online gaming environments where they can connect and play with others. This preference for online gaming underscores the social aspect of gaming, where players seek connectedness and community through their gaming experiences.

This survey paints a detailed picture of the gaming landscape in Germany, where gaming is not just surviving but thriving, embedding itself more profoundly into the lives and dreams of its enthusiasts.
