Linde, whose impressive career includes leadership roles at Universal Pictures and Participant, as well as co-founding Focus Features, will assume his new position on February 17, 2026, following the conclusion of this year’s festival.

Linde’s vast experience in film production and distribution includes overseeing international distribution of major films at Miramax and executive producing acclaimed movies like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” His tenure at Participant, known for producing impactful films like “Spotlight” and “Roma,” ended when the company ceased operations in 2024.

Sundance’s New Direction Under Linde

As Sundance Institute’s new leader, Linde is set to oversee various facets of the institute’s operations, including artist labs, grants, and fellowships, as well as Sundance Collab and public programs worldwide. He will also lead the Sundance Film Festival through its upcoming transition to Boulder, Colorado in 2027.

His appointment comes after the departure of former CEO Joana Vicente in 2024, with Amanda Kelso serving as the acting CEO in the interim. Ebs Burnough, Chair of the Sundance Institute Board, expressed confidence in Linde’s leadership, highlighting his strategic vision and commitment to independent voices.

Linde’s Vision for Sundance

Linde expressed his enthusiasm about leading Sundance, emphasizing his commitment to advancing the institute’s mission and ensuring the continued success of its programs and festivals. He aims to champion bold, original storytelling and reinforce Sundance’s central role in supporting creative storytellers.

In addition to his new role at Sundance, Linde is actively involved in the broader film community. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Film Institute, BAFTA North America, and Film Independent. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including a stint as its Treasurer, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the film industry.
