City council asks questions about the riverfront

Magistrate Theresa Padgett addressed a special called meeting of the Brandenburg City Council Sept. 19 to discuss her proposal for the Brandenburg Marina and Riverfront Development Project. Padgett presented a packet of information to each of the council members for their review. The packet included a pre-application for a grant for the first phase of the proposed project – $362,350 for a convenience store and gas pumps.

Fire station relocation choice concerns citizen

Most of us have learned to avoid driving on Old State Road around 3 p.m. on school days if at all possible. The traffic congestion can rival a Derby event. Fiscal Court sets tax rate

All members of the Meade County Fiscal Court were present on Sept. 20 at a special called meeting to set the real property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. Magistrates Harold Davidson and Herbie Chism made and seconded a motion to follow state guidelines and raise the rate by 4 percent. Magistrate Kent Allen questioned the need for this increase since revenue would rise anyway due to county growth. Theresa Padgett agreed and cited statistics showing increases in the past five years that put Meade County’s tax rate at 28.1 percent higher than the average Kentucky county. She asked for an amendment to decrease the tax rate by 10 percent, which she figured would still yield 25 percent more funding than last year.Click Here For Full Story


Meade County Water District hires general manager

Meade County Water District chairman Joe Bartley resigned his position on the board to assume the new job of general manager for the water district. Fiscal Court will be responsible for finding his replacement. Commissioner Doug Cornett presided as chairman at the Sept. 20 meeting and welcomed Bartley to his new position.Click Here For Full Story


Citizens on Patrol update

Brandenburg’s Citizens on Patrol began their official duties in August and will each month provide an update to the city and the sponsors of the program. Courthouse employee Anna Roberts retires

Deputy Judge Executive Anna Roberts has a long history of working in key positions in Meade County and when one thinks of the people who are part of the solid foundation of our county, one can’t help but think of Roberts.
