SPMS students learn about overcoming obstacles at Renaissance Rally

Overcoming obstacles was the theme of Stuart Pepper Middle School’s guest speaker, Brett Eastburn, who held the attention of nearly 770 middle school students for an hour. Eastburn was born with no arms and no legs, a condition known as Quadmembral Limbs Deficiency. Despite his obstacles, Brett believes he was born with no handicaps and has lived his life accordingly. With humor and heart, he told his story. While in elementary and junior high school, he played baseball, football and basketball. He was also a member of the swim team and was an accomplished wrestler. He placed fourth in the nation under the AAU and barely missed the cut for the Olympic team. After graduating high school, he earned a green belt in the martial arts. Eastburn demonstrated some of his talents and gifts for the student body. He tossed the football, drew a picture, opened a soda can, and wrestled with a student…and won! Brett challenged everyone to overcome whatever obstacles they have in their lives to become successful.
