Four-alarm fire on Weldon Road
A four-alarm fire early Jan. 24 – possibly started by an electrical issue in the basement wiring at 371 Weldon Road – caused significant structural damage. The occupants, Donald and Gloria Dix, escaped unhurt, Meade County Fire Protection District Chief Larry Naser said. A total of 16 firefighters responded, with assistance provided by two Meade County EMS units, Flaherty, Muldraugh and Ekron. One firefighter sustained a knee injury when she slipped on the ice.

Fiscal Court holds special session to consider whether constables should have access to lights, radio
In perhaps the first contentious issue of their new term, members on the Meade County Fiscal Court held a special working session Jan. 18 to examine whether constables should be allowed to use blue police lights and the emergency dispatch radio system.
The Court heard from three constables who said they needed the equipment to safely conduct their duties, and that it was allowed both in the Kentucky Revised Statutes and state constitution

Faith-based event hopes to “awaken” local women
The Meade County High School Performing Arts Center will soon be the location of an inspirational and possibly life-altering event. The “Awaken Women’s Conference 2011” will be held there on Feb. 11 and 12.

Hall of Fame inductees honored at halftime ceremony
During halftime of the boy/girl double-header basketball game against Muhlenburg County Jan. 22, a special ceremony was held to honor this year’s inductees to the Meade County High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Initial Project Graduation committee meeting planned for Feb. 3
The first meeting of the Project Graduation 2011 committee will be held Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Meade County High School cafeteria. Area piano whiz entertains Brandenburg audience
If the attendance at the opening day of the Brandenburg United Methodist Church’s Wednesday “halftime” religious program is any indication, members will have to arrive early for their seats.
