Ladywaves Hitting on all Cylinders

On Jan. 24, the Meade County High School Ladywave Basketball team traveled to Hawesville to take on the Hancock Co. Lady Hornets in District play. In their first meeting, on Jan 10, Meade cruised to an easy victory, and in their second meeting, there would be no change. Meade started this game with the same game plan as they used in their first meeting, using their very productive full press, but this time they switched it up a little by going man to man which harassed each Hancock player that touched the ball. With the press working so well it caused Hancock to mishandle the ball, resulting in quick turnovers, and when they did get the ball up court Meade’s defense made it hard for Hancock to get off quality shots and forced to make unbalanced shots, where Meade was there to scoop up the rebounds. With Meade jumping out to a 12-point lead in a hurry, Hancock’s coach was forced to call a timeout and try and to regroup his Lady Hornets. After the timeout Meade’s offense didn’t let up any as they continued to build on their lead by knocking down three-pointers like dropping quarters in a vending machine. In the first half Meade knocked down eight 3-pointers, three from junior Jenna Gallimore, two from both senior Kendall Wingler, and Seventh Grader Peyton Bradley, and one from sophomore Aubrey Hardesty, which helped them to a 22-point lead at the half.
