Chloe Domont, the visionary behind the acclaimed “Fair Play,” is back with a new cinematic venture titled “A Place in Hell.” This legal world thriller has roped in an impressive cast including Michelle Williams, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Andrew Scott, and has recently completed filming in New Jersey. Domont’s follow-up to “Fair Play” was initially announced back in February 2025 and is described as a gripping narrative centered around two women at a prominent criminal law firm. The anticipation for the film has been building, especially given the success of Domont’s directorial debut, which sparked a fierce bidding war at Sundance 2023, ultimately won by Netflix for a notable $20 million.
Production and Distribution Details
For “A Place in Hell,” Neon has joined forces with MRC and Republic Pictures for co-financing, with production by Rian Johnson’s T-Street. This collaboration marks a reunion of sorts, as T-Street and MRC were also backers for Domont’s “Fair Play.” The negotiation process was spearheaded by key players from Neon, including Alison Cohen, Emily Thomas, and Jeff Deutchman, alongside Peter McPartlin from Republic Pictures.
Neon’s Winning Streak and Upcoming Releases
Neon is riding high on a wave of critical acclaim, having secured its sixth consecutive Palme d’Or win at Cannes this year with Jafar Panahi’s “It Was Just an Accident.” The film distributor’s recent Palme d’Or winner, “Anora,” went on to garner five Academy Awards, touching categories like Best Picture and Best Director. In addition to “A Place in Hell,” Neon’s upcoming slate is studded with potential hits like Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value,” and Julia Ducournau’s “Alpha,” all of which featured at the Cannes 2025 Festival.
Republic Pictures, since its 2023 revival under Paramount Pictures, has been making significant strides in the industry as well. It has a history of successful acquisitions including the Sundance Audience Award-winner “Twinless,” and the Oscar-nominated “September 5.”
Chloe Domont’s Cinematic Vision
Domont has expressed a distinct narrative ambition with her films, aiming to blend dark, challenging subject matters with an engaging, thrilling experience for audiences. Her approach is to delve into the complexities of human behavior while ensuring the storytelling remains compelling and accessible.
With “A Place in Hell,” Domont continues to explore intense themes and complex characters, promising another spellbinding addition to her growing filmography and potentially another significant impact on the festival circuits and box offices globally.
