At the core of the iOS 26 update is the introduction of a new design theme termed "Liquid Glass." This innovative interface aims to enhance content visibility and interaction, featuring transparent elements that appear to float over other content, thus creating a dynamic, more vibrant user interaction layer. The transformation begins right from the lock screen, where the clock adapts fluidly to the available screen space, complemented by a 3D effect visible when the iPhone is tilted. This theme extends across all system elements including controls, navigation, app icons, and widgets, which now offer choices between light and dark themes, as well as transparent and colored options.
Further, the Safari browser now sports a transparent address bar, allowing web pages to fill the entire screen for a seamless browsing experience. Despite a delay in plans to upgrade Siri to the level of Google’s Gemini AI assistant, iOS 26 introduces several new and improved features powered by Apple Intelligence. Noteworthy among these is the introduction of live translations for text and audio in Messages, FaceTime, and phone calls, initially supporting a handful of languages with plans for more.
