The Meade County spelling bee sponsored by the Meade County Education Association was held Feb. 17 at David T. Wilson Elementary School.

Madrigals in Hawaii – a once-in-a-lifetime experience

On Jan. 11, the Meade County High School Madrigals, led by Bryan Nichols and Gibby Horsley, left for Honolulu, Hawaii, at 4 a.m. to perform at a memorial service at Pearl Harbor on Jan. 13. at the USS Bowfin. They also attended a clinic to work on finer points of singing at the University of Hawaii later that evening. The Madrigals sang a number of pieces including “The Star Spangled Banner,” “United We Stand,” “Working for the Dawn of Peace,” and “Lift Every Voice for Freedom.” Click Here For Full Story


Junior division future problem solvers head to state competition

On Dec. 10, 2005, the Junior Division Future Problem Solving team from David T. Wilson competed along with approximately 40 other teams around the state.

Stratford Young joins police department

Stratford Young joined the Brandenburg City Police Department Jan. 21. A 1999 graduate of Meade County High School, Young worked at the Meade County Detention Center for about three years. He returned to Meade County after a stint with the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Department of just under two years. Young is a graduate of the police academy in Richmond, Class #352, which was recognized as a class of distinction. Click Here For Full Story

A neon sign maker, a tight rope walker, and an astronaut are only a few of the things that George Ella Lyon wanted to be as a little girl before finding her true passion of becoming a writer.

MCHS SBDM discusses parent elections, considers honors committee proposal

Principal Bill Adams opened the Feb. 13 of the school based decision making council of Meade County High School with the good news report. He announced that Courtney Campbell and Shawn Schutt had placed second in a regional archery competition and noted that archery has really taken off at MCHS. Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are seeded number one in the district heading into tournament play, and the boys’ swim relay team will compete at the state level. Adams noted the latest induction into the MCHS athletic hall of fame had gone well, as had the FFA Greenhand banquet.

In preparation for their winter carnival, David T. Wilson Elementary students raised money for the opportunity to “pie” a staff member in the face.
