TIFFANY McBENGE

The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Tiffany McBenge, Brandenburg, has been named a United States national award winner in business education. The academy recognizes fewer that 10 percent of all American high school students.

Michele Lusk, Flaherty, has been nominated for membership in the National Honor Society of High School Scholars.

JACOB BENNETT

Jacob Bennett, feature writer for the Evansville Courier & Press in Evansville, Ind., recently received an award from the Indiana Associated Press Managing Editors. He received a third-place award in feature writing for a story about an Indiana Guardsman recovering from a spinal cord injury suffered in Afghanistan.

Two ECTC employees receive awards of excellence

Two of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s finest were selected to receive the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Awards of Excellence for 2006, which recognize quality and excellence in teaching and service. Webmaster Bernie Davenport was named staff winner and Professor Diane Owsley was named faculty winner. They received their awards at a KCTCS New Horizons dinner in their honor on May 16 in Lexington.

Doe Valley Homemakers install new officers

The Doe Valley Homemakers held their installation of officers at their regular meeting May 17. Retiring officers are Martha Page, president; Lois Hermeier, vice president; Karen Hofmann, secretary; and Beth Branson, treasurer. Everyone thanked these officers for their dedication and service to the club.

Local coroner attends Kentucky Forensic Conference

On April 26 and 27, William R. Adams III, deputy coroner of Meade County, attended the 2006 annual Kentucky Coroners’ Conference in Louisville. Sponsored by the Kentucky Coroners’ Association, the conference was open to all the state’s coroners and deputy coroners who have been certified by the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet for having completed the required number of training hours for certification. State medical examiners, state and local emergency management officials and state, county and local law enforcement officers were also in attendance.
