What’s happening with BRAC?

It’s been a few months since we’ve heard an update on the planned changes at Fort Knox as a result of BRAC – the decisions brought about by the recommendations of the military’s Base Realignment and Closure Commission. This reporter contacted Fort Knox’s public affairs office with a list of questions, which were answered by Col. Mark Needham, Fort Knox garrison commander.


Habitat for Humanity: A happy ending, a hopeful beginning

On Aug. 27, two ceremonies were held on Ruthie Court. The first ceremony was the dedication of the Christina Russell home. The second was a ground-breaking on the ninth Habitat for Humanity home to be built in Meade County.


Meade County Fire Protection District keeps promise

At the Aug. 21 board meeting, Meade County Fire Protection District treasurer Bruno Ilario asked that the personal property tax rate of 2 cents per $100 be kept at its current level. Trustee Mike Curl reminded the board that the fire district had promised not to raise taxes after hiring a full-time fire chief so he also felt it should not change. The entire board agreed with the decision.


109 Board hires solid waste coordinator

During their Aug. 21 regular monthly meeting, the 109 Board appointed Mark Gossett coordinator for Meade County Solid Waste & Recycle. The appointment was approved on a motion by Mark Hubbard, seconded by William Hofmann, with all in favor. Following the appointment, Shannon Loose moved to grant enforcement powers to the coordinator pursuant to the Meade County Solid Waste Ordinance, Meade County Solid Waste & Recycle five-year plan and KRS 109 and 224. On a second by Hofmann, the motion carried unanimously.
