Meade keeps playoff hopes alive with 35-0 rout of Central Hardin
The Meade County Greenwave football team (3-5) may have had to face a “Friday the 13th” matchup with Central Hardin (2-6) last weekend, but the Greenwaves showed no signs of being cursed as they routed the Bruins, 35-0, in a must-win district game.

Third time charm for Greenwaves
In the semifinals of the 10th District soccer tournament, number three-seeded Greenwaves were put to the test as they met the number two-seeded John Hardin Bulldogs after being defeated by the Dogs twice during the season.

Lady Waves end season with a disappointing loss
After coming off a huge 10-0 win over Fort Knox in the first round of the 10th District soccer tournament, the Lady Waves failed to matchup with the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers in the semifinals.

Lady Waves lose district to Grayson, but advance to region tourney
The Meade County volleyball team (26-6) looked to take their second consecutive 9th District title on Oct. 11, but the Lady Waves could not overcome the play of rival Grayson County as the Lady Tigers came out victorious, 18-25, 22-25, at Breckinridge County High School.

Ekron hosts elementary track meet
On Sept. 26, the Ekron Elementary Panther Pacers hosted their annual cross country meet. In the boys’ race, Tyler Millay from David T. Wilson Elementary and Nathan Bates from Flaherty Elementary battled to the finish line in a neck-and-neck race for first place, with Millay edging out Bates in the end. Destiny Timmons from David T. Wilson flew across the line for the first-place finish in the girls’ race. Runners from David T. Wilson (D), Ekron (E), Flaherty (F) and West Point (W) participated in the meet. Below are the full results of both races with the runners’ names, school and grades and time listed.

Mills horses do well at AQHA Regional Experience

AMARILLO, TEXAS – Two horses owned by Jerry and Rita Mills, Brandenburg, recently competed at an American Quarter Horse Association Regional Experience during the Region Four Experience July 13-16 in Columbus, Ohio. Jerry and Rita were accompanied to the experience by Jeremy Mills and Kolton Lane Shelman, Stephensport.

Ethan Snyder captures Junior Bassmasters state championship
At age 13 Ethan Snyder of Flaherty joined the Meade County Junior Bass Club and fished his first trail with the 2006 TBF/FLW Junior Bass Circuit. Ethan finished second place in three of four Junior Bass Regional Tournaments landing him the state title of Angler of the Year. He also qualified to fish in the TBF/FLW Junior Bass State Championship Tournament that was held at Rough River Lake on Oct. 7 and 8. The fishing conditions at Rough River were extremely tough, making it hard for the young anglers to get a bite. Ethan took the champion title and big fish award with 2.24 lbs. in the 11-14-year-old age group. 2006 has been a very successful year for Ethan and a dream come true for this first year angler.
