“I’ve never seen anything like that happen,” said Frank Orr Jr., Brandenburg, of the Christmas Day lightning strike which destroyed a 100-foot sycamore believed to be about 100 years old.

Mickie McManamon will travel to China for 2007 Special Olympics Summer Games

Mickie McManamon’s involvement with Special Olympics began before it even had an official title. When the teenaged Mickie was a sophomore in a Washington, D.C., area school, Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver asked for helpers at the day camp she ran on her estate. McManamon spent two summers as a day camp coach and then returned while she was in college to train the next round of coaches while majoring in special education at Spalding University.

Clothesline of Quilts in Meade County

When Jennifer Bridge, Meade County Extension agent for family and consumer sciences, was home in Elliott County a couple of years ago, she noticed they were working on a new project – a Clothesline of Quilts – to preserve cultural heritage and decided it was time to explore the possibility for the Lincoln Trail region.
