Why are they hiding facts from our Jailer Troy Seelye? Prior to the elections Troy Seelye, Meade County jailer, stated that the Meade County Jail was operating in the black.

In my opinion...
Kentucky’s AMC tax

Kentucky’s Alternative Minimum Calculation Tax or ‘AMC tax’ has been the subject of quite a bit of scrutiny in the past few months. Most recently House Minority Leader Jeff Hoover (R-Jamestown) has pre-filed a bill for the 2007 session to eliminate it, citing the burden to Kentucky small businesses.

Who’s minding the store?
– And other points to ponder

It’s a new year, and in so many ways that means out with the old and in with the new.

Most of us take this opportunity to turn over a new leaf, so to speak. We make resolutions concerning changes we’d like to see in our lives, such as shedding a few pounds, quitting smoking, exercising more, or perhaps taking more time to smell the roses. Sometimes we are successful in our endeavors and sometimes not, but what are we without our dreams?

Mail Letters to the Editor to P.O. Box 678, Brandenburg, Ky 40108; FAX to (270) 422-2110; E-mail to messenger@bbtel.com; hand deliver to 138 Broadway, Suite A, Brandenburg; or use the drop box by the front door after business hours.

Letters should be 300 words or less and concern an issue of public interest. Longer letters MAY be run at the discretion of the editorial staff or may be edited to fit.

They must be typed or printed legibly. The Messenger limits the frequency of Letters to the Editor to one per person within a 30-day period.

Letters may not contain slanderous remarks and all letters are printed at the discretion of the editor.

The writer's name, address and telephone number must be included.
We will, however, withhold the writer's name on request. A file of all letters to the editor will be kept for public inspection at the Messenger.

Submit words of thanks as paid advertisements.
