Betsy Lawson retires from First State Bank after 57 years

When Betsy Lawson first began her employment with First State Bank, she most likely never imagined she would remain with the bank for 57 years. Yet she has indeed worked for the bank for over a half century and not only loved her job but been very much loved and appreciated by her fellow employees and customers

Profile on Longevity – Herbert Thompson

Herbert Lee Thompson was born in Brandenburg on Sept. 8, 1922, the son of Luther and Ruth Thompson. However, Herbert was raised by his grandparents – Henry and Louisa Shrewsberry – on their farm in Old Weldon. Herbert’s mother Ruth married a man with the last name of Foor, and she taught in the Meade County schools for several years. Herbert has a half-sister named Mary Frances Benham.

Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky information session

The Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky will open its doors in fall 2007 at the Schneider Hall at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. One hundred and twenty young people will participate in this residential program for high school juniors and seniors with a focus on math and science. They will engage in classes and research to further their interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers. The Academy of Mathematics and Science will have a curriculum of university courses. The academy also will offer research opportunities to students during the year and facilitate research opportunities for students during the summer. They will earn 60 college credits while also obtaining a high school diploma. They will learn with peers who share their interests.
